Celebrations in the Polish school (3) - Christmas
There is a tradition to celebrate Christmas together at our school. We do it on the last day of school before the Christmas break.
This year it was Tuesday, 22nd December.
To begin with, there was a Nativity Play - a show prepared by our Religion teachers and performed by students. All the other children and teachers came down to the gym to watch and sing carrols together.
After that each class organized a meeting. It included singing carrols, too, a festive meal (consisting of cakes, biscuits and other delicacies). Children shared wafers (it is a very old tradition, about which you may read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_wafer) and wished each other all the best in the coming year. Classrooms were beautifully decorated. Some children also prepared special nativity performances just for their classmates. Everyone had a very good time.
When the children went home, teachers met for their small Christmas meeting, where they also shared wafers, ate home made delicacies and talked, talked, talked...
